Project

  • Container Ship Pattern Recognition
  • Objectives The CSPR project is to recognize the container ship entering the harbor gate to control their access and manage according harbor assets to have the traffic flow efficient in addition to cost-minimizing purposes. Our team is currently working with the U.S. States government engineering team to exploit its usage at the Georgia Savannah harbor. This project is launched in 2007 with extensive research reviews to specify its topics and coverage.

  • E-Log
  • The E-log project aims to develop the back-end event-base system for life logging application domain that covers healthcare, fitness, surveillance, security and enterprise management. The origin of the E-log stems from the MEMEX (a compound word of “memory” and “index”) system proposed by Vannevar Bush in 1945. MEMEX refers the theoretical proto-hypertext computer system in which an individual compresses and stores all of their books, records, and communications which is then mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility.

  • EChronicle
  • eChronicle is a chronicling software that supports the general purpose information archiving using its specialized information models and backends. This site is the home of eChronicle. Development Increasing semantic indexing dictionary Dictionary preparation for semantic indexing Semantic indexing is necessary when the type and size of data is diverse. Without semantic indexing ,by which a user can access or search data by semantic knowledge, a user has to figure out the correct or at least a portion of data values or as well known, keywords, to query the database.

  • EFIM
  • EFIM is the prototype information system development project using the event-based function information model. This project pursues to develop a new data model specially designed for information chronicling. To meet the complex demands in heterogeneous data modeling, it has a number of unique features: unified data index, progressive event logging and trace back supports, behavior pattern generation and matching, and functional summarization in multiple levels of granularity. Documents Contents on the EFIM documents are described at Project/EFIM/Documentation.

  • eGoogle
  • Not hidden but less well known facts on Google is on its power of knowledge on Internet and user activities. This project will investigate the use of Google specifically on the fact not very open to the public. I will try to come up with simple test applications to demonstrate ideas. • EML
  • This page briefly introduces the features of EML (E-model Language) and the E-model system. EML EML is an E-model data query language extending the SQL-89 standard with enhanced features: (1) unstructured query, (2) semantic query expansion, (3) temporal query, (4) ranked ordering, (5) path query, and (6) natural join. EML grammar The EML grammar is written in Backus–Naur Form using Gold Parsing System. Complete one will be released after publication.

  • Experiential meeting system
  • Backgrounds EMS represents the Experiential Meeting System and this was the project supported by HP Labs for three years from 2002-2004. A meeting system requires the integration of heterogeneous media including video, audio, texts, etc. over the time line to search related materials changing or progressing spatio-temporally. The meeting itself is also a rather unstructured event typically a collection of events associated in an unstructured manner. The goal of the project is developing the theoretical backgrounds to design the proper storage and query methods to handle meeting related data to provide users enhanced experiences on meeting.

  • FSUSIM
  • FSUSIM is the finishing mill set up (FSU) simulator that I developed in 1996 at RIST. This page provides the brief description of FSUSIM. General Description Due to the unexpected mutual interference between rolling parameters, exact mill setup is not so easy job for engineers. We developed a FSU Off-Line Simulator (FSUSIM) based on practical setup models operating in several production lines. The purpose of the FSUSIM application is for operator to simulate new FSU equation before adapting into plant.

  • HIRS
  • Heavy ingot reduction scheduler (HIRS) is an engineering software producing the optimized ingot reduction schedule. HIRS algorithms are developed by extensive FEM (Finite Element Method) simulation results based on two years on-line operation data that we have collected on-site. • METS
  • Abstracts A key challenge to the successful application of the data modeling, storage and retrieval is the processing of relevant media to determine the events that are represented by them. Towards this goal, we developed a heterogeneous media events processing system that combines human expertise with algorithmic processing capabilities. In doing so, we seek to leverage the fact that computers are good at fast low level processing and humans are good at high level analysis and understanding.

  • PCT
  • Backgrounds PCT represents personal chronicling tools developed to create the chronicle of a personnel user. Its aim is to collect user activities on the personal computer automatically specifically user-computer interactions and their activities. Just like this website we collect, store and display the information. The different we made in our works is specially designed software tools for the easy chronicling that enhance user experience by facilitating the temporal complex event process.

  • PRGS
  • Precise roll gap setup technology for edger roll in roughing mill (PRGS) is developed to measure the diameter of the edger roll in roughing mill to set up the slab width with very high accuracy. It is installed directly under the rough mill and regularly measures the edger gap width. The roll gap is measured using the robotic arm equipped with LVDT (Linear Vertical Displacement Transducer) and built on top of the hydro-powered telescopic cylinder for up and down operation.

  • RMSIM
  • RMSIM is an engineering software package composed of 0.25 million lines MFC/C++ codes with hundreds of classes. It gives users the power to design the complex roughing mill plant design. Its simple interface with highly automated parameter setting features astonished users in the industry. At the time it was developed, RMSIM was the only software in the world that supports the full roughing mill plant design, plant simulation and computing optimal production schedules.

  • RTWARP
  • Real-time hot slab warping control system (RTWARP) is a real-time video processing system working in hazardous steel plant environments. RTWARP controls the roughing mill to flatten the slab warp that causes serious impair of the roll and even stopping the steel production. RTWARP detects and measures the curvature of the slab end in real time and controls the milling speed in real time. The RTWARP project was funded by POSCO for 3 years with $1.

  • SPFM
  • Scale prediction software for finishing mill and downcoiler (SPFM) predicts the scale thickness during air-cooling time when a downcoil passed the final finishing mill line in the hot-coil and is placed at the yard for cooling. SPFM simulates 3-dimensional temparature environments using non-linear computation libraries. We developed the main SPFM algorithm with extensive engineering data for simulation. SPFM comes with 3D analysis and display packages to visualize the growth of scales on coil over time.

  • SSM
  • Slab size meter using laser range sensors (SSM) is a real-time sensing system prototype to measure the size of a moving slab in real time using three laser range sensors and one tachometer. SSM was built in 1995 at POSCO and achieved 0.1 mm accuracy in range measurement. • Traffic sign pattern recognition algorithm
  • The TSPR project aims to develop the pattern recognition tools specifically for the traffic signs used by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration. The signs in our interests are defined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). MUTCD is the national standard for all traffic control devices installed on any street, highway, or bycycle trail open to public travle as proivded in Title 23 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 655.
